I've gotten a couple of emails asking about Mimi Alford asking if I saw any signs she was making this up. I'll have to say I do not see ANY signs of deception.

In fact, seeing the truth here can help us see deception in the future. Take a look at this video I chose at random.

It is a great video because Barbara makes it clear (along with others) that she is wrote the book for the money- What I see is no hesitation in her answers and it does not appear rehearsed. She does not deny that she did this for money, but gives more dignified reasons why she chose to do this now.

Let's suppose for a minute she was lying about the affair, what would we expect to see if she was being less than truthful or embellishing the events?

We'd likely see some signs she found the attention pleasurable.
The description of the events (which you'd have to see in other videos) would not seem so ordinary; or rather, there might be more 'action' and it would either be portrayed either as more violent or romantic depending if the person telling the story would also want to play the part of the victim or the princess.
There would likely be more pauses between the question(s) being asked and when she begins to answer the question. In her mind she'd have to give some thought to the answer(s).
There also would be some 'new' information offered. When the media starts to focus on a story and a person, there are endless interviews where the person is asked the same questions over and over again. It is tedious. If someone is willing to make up a story, there can be a need to please, and the embellishments become bigger in subtle and not so subtle ways.

There is also another psychology principal that relates to lying we see here. Often times we hear lies but are unwilling to confront or question the lie because there are usually consequences to confronting the person being deceptive. Think of the wife who 'knows' their husband is seeing another woman. Here we have the reverse of that. We all know at some intuitive level she is being honest, but there are some people that want to say she is being deceptive, so their beloved and heroic JFK can remain untarnished.

The 'girls' on The View interviewed her with mock contempt in order to be confrontational. I would think they would treat her with more compassion, because what happened to her was not the normal way someone would lose their virginity, and how she was treated as a young woman was wrong.

Not just another face in the crowd: Detecting emotional schematic faces during continuous flash suppression.

To test whether threatening visual information receives prioritized processing, many studies have examined visual search for emotional schematic faces. Still, it has remained unclear whether negative or positive schematic faces are processed more efficiently. We used continuous flash suppression, a variant of binocular rivalry, to render single emotional schematic faces invisible and measured whether negative or positive faces have an advantage in accessing awareness. Across three experiments, positive faces were detected more quickly than negative faces. A fourth experiment indicated that this positive face advantage was unrelated to the valence of the face stimuli but due to the relative orientation of the mouth curvature and the face contour. These findings demonstrate the impact of configural stimulus properties on perceptual suppression during binocular rivalry and point to a perceptual confound present in emotional schematic faces that might account for some ambiguous results obtained with schematic face stimuli in previous studies. Memory and attention for social threat: Anxious hypercoding-avoidance and submissive gaze aversion.

Rivalry for dominance is a recurrent challenge in human social interaction. During these social dominance interactions, some people rapidly break eye contact, whereas others merely try to avoid such eye-to-eye confrontations. The first is an example of submissive gaze aversion, whereas the second reflects anxious gaze avoidance. We tested these distinct forms of gaze behavior within a social-memory setting and show that anxious individuals vigilantly attend to, superiorly remember, and subsequently avoid social threats (i.e., angry faces). Furthermore, submissive individuals, as indexed by high trait anxiety and low trait anger, exhibit rapid gaze aversion from facial anger. Mechanisms of hypervigilance–avoidance thus seem to underlie natural gaze behavior and enhanced memory for threat in anxiety. Accordingly, we propose the term hypercoding-avoidance, which describes how anxious individuals habitually scan their immediate social environment for threat, remember its location, and subsequently avoid it. Then there is this odd statement from the family, that simply does not make sense on so many levels:

"What [police] were unwilling to confirm to the press, but left to our discretion, is that it has already been determined to be Ayla's blood," the statement said. "Even in light of this evidence we are more determined than ever to find out what has happened to Ayla and we still cling to the hope that she is alive and will be returned to us. We urge anyone that has information about Ayla to come forward now and unburden yourself of the truth."

Secrets and Lies: Involuntary Leakage in Deceptive Facial Expressions as a Function of Emotional Intensity

Darwin (1872) hypothesized that some facial muscle actions associated with emotion cannot be consciously inhibited, particularly when the to-be concealed emotion is strong. The present study investigated emotional “leakage” in deceptive facial expressions as a function of emotional intensity. Participants viewed low or high intensity disgusting, sad, frightening, and happy images, responding to each with a 5 s videotaped genuine or deceptive expression. Each 1/30 s frame of the 1,711 expressions (256,650 frames in total) was analyzed for the presence and duration of universal expressions. Results strongly supported the inhibition hypothesis. In general, emotional leakage lasted longer in both the upper and lower face during high-intensity masked, relative to low-intensity, masked expressions. High intensity emotion was more difficult to conceal than low intensity emotion during emotional neutralization, leading to a greater likelihood of emotional leakage in the upper face. The greatest and least amount of emotional leakage occurred during fearful and happiness expressions, respectively. Untrained observers were unable to discriminate real and false expressions above the level of chance.

Morning Edition co-host Steve Inskeep and NPR's Shankar Vedantam about software that can reportedly detect when a CEO might be trying to hide something during a conference call with investment analysts sent us off on a search for more about the research that Shankar was discussing.

Layered Voice Analysis technology, according to researchers from Duke University and the University of Illinois, seems to be able to pick up on the "vocal dissonance markers" in the tone of a CEO's voice that signal he or she might be shading the truth, trying to not say something or even lying.

How Musicians (and everybody else through speech) Communicate Emotion

I am often making the comparison of "communication" to music and dancing; especially when we are involved in high stakes interviews and interrogations. There is an ebb and flow to every conversation and relationship. As an observer to interviews and interrogations we are taught to notice when emotions and/or energy levels change, because this is significant.

There are those among us, either through either training or because they are a natural truth wizards, that acutely can zero in when the words and emotions do not match up.

To me personally it is revealed much like the fictionalized show Psych, where one of the characters has the extraordinary power of observation and deduction, that he plays off as his psychic ability, the show uses a special effect to highlight an object- to me the words, or gestures, or slips are amplified.

The following video is a metaphor to what we do when finding lies and deception. To understand this in the context of music will help you understand it in other areas of your life, and will improve your ability to be a truth detective.

Dan Levitin designed a psychology experiment using a special player piano to analyze and reproduce a performance without expressive elements, and versions in between. When participants ranked their preference of versions it was found they matched the most expressive, in which a musician uses variations in timing, loudness and softness to convey emotion.

Politics aside, this is a great picture.

Dominance is shown by the Governor by pointing at the President, and we see the President dismissing her show of aggression by patting her other arm (a gesture that says, okay, okay now.) We also see the President bending into her personal space.

I heard the President simply walked away as she continued to talk.

Where to start and when to end.

I've had to deal with cases with these types of allegations and they are hard to stomach. Sandusky REALLY believes he has done no wrong, and his done more good than harm- and the good should make up for the misdeeds. Unfortunately many abusers like Sandusky do not understand the long term affects of a "relationship" with someone who is too young to understand what is going on- this is why we call them predators. Unfortunately this is a classic case of a pedophile who groom victims.

From Sandusky own words, notice how he can confidently answer some questions (meaning he has a different internal definition of "abuse" than you or I) while others he has to repeat the questions (meaning it is a sensitive question and he needs more time to think of an answer).

When Bob asks him, "Is that it?" after Sandusky says he should not have showered with the boys, Sandusky responds, "That is what hits me the most." In this statement he lets us know there are other things that he should not have done, but the worst occurred in the shower.

When talking about what happened int he shower with the young boy, Sandusky uses the words "POSSIBLY snapping a towel or horse play" to try to explain the sound. Whenever a person uses 'fuzzy' language like possibly, maybe, perhaps it is likely not true- it either happened- snapping a towel- or did not...

Living in in the Indianapolis area this story hits home- especially when it is clear that his body language is showing more than his words.

In an interview in the Colt's locker room last week Peyton spoke with reporters. The one thing that is clear is Peyton Manning is no closer to knowing if the surgery has worked. He continues to give his strongest impression with his body language and the obvious shoulder shrugs. Shrugs are the biggest sign of indecisiveness. He does not think he will be able to show any improvement by December, and in February the Colts have what may be their biggest decision in the franchise's history.

Below are some key statements from Peyton Manning in quotes, where he clearly shrugs. (See if you can see the statements where he shrugs with his feet.)

“...I miss playing...”

“...I’d love to...”

“...go play again...”

He is unsure about these statements.

“...in December...” doesn’t appear he expects to be any better to be able to play…

“...hope things are better...”

Concerning the one year part of the contract, “...my recommendation...”

“...fair for the Colts to make their decision...”

“Sure hope we are better”

The statement analysis says even more, when combined with the nonverbals.

Also it is important to note, it has also been released that the neck surgery was because he has lost some arm strength.

What I find interesting is when they are both asked simple questions and do not have an answer, especially Ruth. What this tells me is they definitely had a clear goals to do these interviews, and when they were asked questions that where not "practiced" they lost their concentration, slowed their speech as they had to think what would be the best answer to the question.

The son was clear about not knowing what was going on, but whenever he is asked about his father's statements, there is no details- just generalities of what was said. They appear practiced.

I have noticed two things that are HOT SPOTS:

Both Deborah and Jeremy, when speaking about the actual time period when the tot disappeared have continually made the the mistake of using the pronoun 'we' when they each were supposedly alone. Deborah does this more by saying thing like "We woke up" and when asked when the last time she saw the baby, "When we put her to bed" - she corrects herself every time by saying 'I' - they are speaking freely and stumble on the mistake.
They never use her name. This is distancing language.

Another odd thing is how they thank all the different departments and organizations for their help, almost like a Nascar driver fits the name of all their different sponsors in during a TV interview. Normally I would expect the parents to be too numb, and so deep in thought and despair and would not be able to rattle off 5-10 different groups of people who are helping to find the girl.

Mom of Missing Tot Says She Took Lie Detector Test and FAILED

Lisa's father, Jeremy Irwin, says he has offered to take a lie detector test, but that police say that's not necessary.

Here is an update video...

This one is going to be solved with police work, developing time lines, tracking cell phones, and establishing inconsistencies in their many statements.

There are several slips in their statements, at one point in one of the videos she says, "we woke up" but he was at work, right? Old fashion police work will include making sure there was no deviation from his normal work schedule (was he late or did he leave early).

At least one of the cell phone was new, she states she was transferring the numbers.

What is odd is she is showing true emotion in the video- she really misses the child. Was this the case where the infant died because she feel out of her crib, or was suffocated by accident because she was sleeping in bed with her mom? and one parent or both parents made up a story so they would not be charged with manslaughter?!?!

If it was a infant stranger abduction (which is is appearing it was not) in 95% of the cases the infant is eventually returned to the parents.

Like I said, this is one of those cases where it very difficult to get a read from the videos; but rest assured the police have hours of interview videos and have a clearer idea of what occurred.

On an aside, I did notice a change in the reporter's word choice as the story developed. Words like 'alleged' abduction was how it was being referenced.

Missing Kansas City 10-Month-Old Girl: Her Parents Speak with Media

These two videos are some of the toughest videos I have analyzed.

The parents of a 10-month-old girl who was apparently snatched from her crib said Thursday that they frantically searched their Kansas City home for any sign of her but found only an open window, an unlocked front door and house lights blazing.

They speak freely about the events that puts them in the spotlight. The mom shows true emotions in both interviews. You can see stress in in his brows and forehead. I have watched 3 different interviews -several times- and my assessment is they had nothing to do with the kidnapping of the 10-month-old.

Those who follow the deception field may notice a few things (that are very subtle and extremely small, i.e. slight mixing of the verb tense, differing stories, prop holding, looking down) and think they are seeing a hot spot- this is why I reviewed the videos many times- and I believe they are not true hot spots, and what we are seeing is a couple average people reacting to the stress of the events.

While I do not think she directly murdered the victim, it was clear she knew more than she was telling. This was a classic case where one attempt to obscure what she did know about the murder, made her guilty by association- and snowballed into a nightmare. She is very lucky that there were mistakes made by the police, and they were allowed to surface.

Interrogations in countries even as civilized as Italy, are more like the back room interrogations that are portrayed in movies from the first part of the 19th century.

This should be a warning to all those who travel and study abroad; while it is statistically unlikely you will be involved in something so felonious, it is important to realize each and every country has a different style of laws and justice. There are young people who are sentenced to years in foreign prisons for what would be considered small drug offences here in the United States. It is important to note, there is also a different standard of "fairness" for foreigners who are charged with crimes in other countries, you are unlikely to receive any breaks.

The Sarasota County (Florida) Sheriff's Office is wrapping up its investigation of the youth football brawl that was captured on videotape last weekend, and expects to announce any charges on Friday.

The investigation has centered on four suspects who took part in the melee; sheriff's Col. Steve Burns says all four of them have provided statements to law enforcement and are "cooperating."

When I first saw the above video I had to replay the vigil footage of the parents, before I went further. I wanted to see him again. See how he stressfully blows out air, see him lower his head to his wife- see if he was hiding his face, and why he wasn't facing towards the main vocal point of the vigil. I thought it could be his attempt to fight for control and composure- not wanting to break down in public.

Then I heard that he had a diagnosis of schizophrenia and all the alarm bells went off for me. If you are unfamiliar with schizophrenia click on the link the the last sentence. In a nutshell, it is a mental issue where the person doesn't always have clear thought processes and emotional responses. Let me say that most people can be helped with effective treatment, and lead a normal life.

There are breaking points (loss of job, loss of relationship, loss of close parent, etc.) for people who have this issue and snap violently. Having a step daughter can be a stressful situation, especially an eleven year old who is growing up.

I see towards the end of the video, her stepfather actually look around. Usually when I see this it is a person looking for an exit strategy.

Now when the authorities say the stepfather "is not listed as a suspect," we know those closest to the victim are ALWAYS suspects, so the police are purposely stating this to put the family/him at ease. This is a great strategy to learn more and more (and interact with any potential suspects) as long as possible and gain valuable information that could be helpful in the future.

From a strictly criminal profile point of view, given the environment of being a close knit community, and when she was last seen and likely abduction time, and police and FBI officials are saying that there is no evidence at this time that Celina was taken, abducted or that a struggle ensued, the first places that investigators would look is:

Family members
An adult neighbor who had watched her from a distance and had opportunity to wait for the right time to abduct.
Less likely, would be someone in the construction or services trade, who are mobile by nature, who stumbled upon her in "recent" past and planned to commit the abduction.

What I see of her stepfather is LIMITED so by no means conclusive; but what I do see makes me curious. Not to worry, the FBI Child Abduction Response Team is the best of the best, and they are the best chance to finding out the truth to what happened to this poor little girl.

I can see why the charges were dropped.

When she is describing the encounter she is actually leaning forward and her head is held high. This is something you would not expect, you'd expect some negative emotions; people who have been raped do not want to talk about it because it is very traumatic and emotionally draining.

Also she does not say "no" to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, just that she doesn't want to lose her job- this is not as clear- and I hope this was not a misunderstanding of cultures.

She shows more emotion when she is speaking about her speculation that "They are going to kill me," rather than the actual attack?!?!

She then says she wants justice, but this contradicts her fear.

She also states, "God as my witness," in reference to her being a prostitute and this is a hot spot to deception (use of God).

Overall I see at least 3-4 things that I would consider hot spots which leads me to believe she is being less than truthful about the circumstances.

While I cannot definitely say if she is telling the truth or lying about her migraines, I can tell you she is under a great deal of stress. I see two things that give me pause, but normally we like to see three things to definitely state that it is likely she is not telling the truth.

Watch the above video and notice the area above her right eye, see the line form, this is a clear sign of stress.

When one eyebrow raises more than the other we call this a "skeptics eyebrow" - she may be skeptical of her own words. As always we must be careful to compare what we see in the above video to her baseline, so here is a screen shot from a video where we do not see this expression.

When I look at other videos where she is interacting with people, or speaking in front of the camera I do not see this expression, occasionally I see stress. Stress usually starts on the right side of her eyebrows and will move over to the left, but the differences between the two eyebrows are never as large as we see in the above video when she is speaking about her migraines.

Ben wins the sexual attraction award for this Bachelorette.

JP is the first one she does not run up to, I believe this is because she knows he would not appreciate it, because of his personality, she adopts a more reserved greeting, but intimate. I also notice how she is ready for the hug to be over well before he is, when she releases a hand and adjusts her hair. Then they interlock fingers, which is something she does with Ben. I believe there are mixed messages and this is a clear case where internally she is undecided and unsure of her decisions.

In my opinion JP and Ben will be in the finals of this season.

Amazing story of survival. I see a couple of micro expressions, letting me know that while she appears to be doing well, she still has some ways to go, who wouldn't?

I read the book and can recommend it for anyone who wants to understand the mind of predators (Phillip and Nancy Garrido) and the enduring spirit to survive... and understand more about Stockholm's Syndrome and why she never ran or screamed out who she was those few times she was in public.

As someone who studies criminal behavior there are some things that stand out about this case:

Phillip Garrido's choice to be a pedophile was made because children are easily targets, can be manipulated, can be overpowered and controlled, and there is more opportunity to kidnap a child compared to an adult. Phillip was not interested in her innocence.
Phillip and Nancy had some sort of nurturing drive-albeit sick- and Jaycee was part of this. They considered the kidnapping and imprisonment as a sort of family unit. Many kidnapped victims that are held for a period longer than 2-24 hours in confinement are usually murdered when the perpetrator becomes bored with them or fears that having possession of them will result in their arrest. They never were bored and she never said they said or acted like she was a burden to them. In fact it appears there were other opportunities where they could have kidnapped another girl but did not (it was released that Nancy would lure little girls into their van where they would video tape the little girl doing things like the splits).
"Possession" in the above paragraph is a key word, to captors they are not thought of as another human being, but rather another possession. The choice of victim is very important, some criminals choose who is easiest to obtain (prostitute, older individual, or child), or what they normally would not be able to obtain through a normal relationship.
Phillip was an undiagnosed Violent Psychopath, if you are unsure of what this is I can highly recommend Former FBI Agent, Joe Navarro's Kindle Edition of How to Spot a Psychopath (2011 2nd Edition)where he outlines a 150 point checklist. Phillip Garrido meets roughly 95% of the items on the checklist.
Many manipulative 'techniques' that captors normally use use were not used by the Garridos: such as your parents do not want you back; I will hurt or kill your family; there is a group of people that will hurt you if you try to escape- and will hurt your family; etc. Only once- it was mentioned- that he employed a fear tactic by saying , he may have to sell her to others who will keep her in a cage, so she would not cry as much during the abuse.
There are eerie similarities between Jaycee's and Elizabeth Smart's captivity, among them include: Both captors thought they were communicating with God; both captors had odd enough personalities and piercing eyes, so people avoided contact with them; and both had wives that allowed and help the captors commit the ongoing crimes.

I feel for Jaycee and hope that she can overcome this and lead a happy life.

I highly recommend Jaycee's book.

Using a built-in camera linked to software that analyzes facial micro-expressions, the attached earpiece whispers the true interpretation into one's ear. The camera tracks 24 "feature points" on your conversation partner's face; analyzing the micro-expressions, how often they appear, and for how long. Then it compares the collected data with its bank of known expressions.

When MIT researchers Picard and el Kaliouby were calibrating their prototype, they were surprised to find that the average person was only able to interpret, 54 percent of the 24 expressions on real, non-acted faces correctly. They reasoned that most people could use some help reading the real mood of people they were talking with. By contrast, the software correctly identifies 64 percent of the expressions.

Authorities release video recorded by of Phillip and Nancy Garrido, the couple who held Jaycee Dugard captive for 18 years. This raw video shows a parole officer searching the home of the Garridos during the time Dugard was being held captive in their backyard.

Notice the following signs:

When does Nancy Garrido confront the officer? As he is preparing to search the back of the house and is moving closer to the backyard. Anytime someone becomes more confrontational in a situation like this, you are getting closer to what they are hiding. It is their way of distracting and in a small way explaining why they feel justified in committing a crime.

Notice Phillip's shirt... At first it is unbuttoned; this is more relaxed and comfortable. When he is in the back of the house he buttons the shirt. This is a subtle/subconsciously way to provide himself protection. It is interesting, when people know they are about to be arrested and cuffed, almost always there is some sort of preening and adjusting that occurs, because they know they will no longer have the freedom to make themselves look better when their hands are cuffed behind their backs.

Notice how she does not comply with the officer instructions as he moves into the backyard. She wants to see how closely he will inspect the backyard and is obviously nervous.

Lastly, in the book Crime Signals: How to Spot a Criminal Before You Become a Victim author David Givens explains an interesting phenomenon that occurs to houses where the people are hiding some sort of crime/problem/issue, they always keep the blinds closed so people cannot see into the house. It even occurs when the people living in the house are not closing the blinds to hide an actual object, they are closed all the time. This is sometimes done subconsciously (as in the example in the above book where he describes a situation where a father was systematically abusing his family over years.) Another interesting behavior that people do is, if someone from a house is arrested, most of the time they close their blinds and keep them closed for an extend period of time. In the video, I also see a fence in the front yard. Fences provide the home owner an inner feeling of protection; even if it is short enough for almost anyone to easily hop over, as we see in the Garrido's front yard.

Geiselman and three other researchers analyzed over 60 studies on detecting deception and published their findings in a recent issue of American Journal of Forensic Psychiatry. They outlined a number of red flags we all see, but may not be aware of, when someone is lying directly to our faces. Here are the facts:

When questioned, deceptive people say as little as possible.

Though they say little, they tend to spontaneously give a justification for what they are saying, usually without being prompted.

They tend to repeat questions before answering them, perhaps to give themselves time to concoct an answer.

They often monitor the listener's reaction to what they are saying. "They try to read you to see if you are buying their story," Geiselman said.

They often initially slow down their speech because they have to create their story and monitor your reaction, and when they have it straight "will spew it out faster," Geiselman said. Truthful people are not bothered if they speak slowly, but deceptive people often think slowing their speech down may look suspicious. "Truthful people will not dramatically alter their speech rate within a single sentence," he said.

They tend to use sentence fragments more frequently than truthful people; often, they will start an answer, back up and not complete the sentence.

They are more likely to press their lips when asked a sensitive question and are more likely to play with their hair or engage in other "grooming" behaviors. Gesturing toward one's self with the hands tends to be a sign of deception; gesturing outwardly is not.

Truthful people, if challenged about details, will often deny that they are lying and explain even more, while deceptive people generally will not provide more specifics.

When asked a difficult question, truthful people will often look away because the question requires concentration, while dishonest people will look away only briefly, if at all, unless it is a question that should require intense concentration.

Is it real? Is she faking emotion? Is she showing a "cry face?"

I never saw actual tears, she wiped her right eye more than the left, and wiped her nose as much as her right eye. This is unusual. Normally we cry tears equally in both eyes, and for there to be nasal discharge there would be a great deal of crying.

Furthermore she begins wiping her eyes from the corner and along the bottom of the eyelash and outward beyond the eyelash- suggesting there would be a large tear for there to still be moisture, most people wipe the cheek, especially women with eye makeup along the bottom of their eye lash.

The "cry face" has two basic styles:

Extreme stress in the forehead and/or between the eyebrows, lifting of the cheeks and opening of the mouth to some degree.
The solemn cry is where there is little or no movement in any facial muscles, usually done when emotionally drained.

Why do we cry? Sadness, stress, even intense 'good' emotions. All these emotions produce chemicals in the body and crying is a way to put the body in balance. These emotions can, and often spill over into other parts of the body, hand trembles, movement in the legs, shifting of the torso. These types of emotions also ebb and flow at varying levels through the body- With Casey we do not see any changes, and she appears like a statute except to wipe her ears or her nose... If she was experiencing emotion we would expect to see some shifting, movement in her forehead or eyes.

It is extremely unlikely she was crying real tears, and the emotion was faked.

Only using a standard webcam or similar video equipment, nViso tracks over 143 different facial points to identify a range of features and relates them to models developed with facial databases.

The technology is based on theoretical work by Dr. Paul Ekman which demonstrates that universal emotions are precisely and sub-consciously revealed by minor changes in micro-expressions in the face. For instance, someone who is surprised commonly raises their eyebrows, opens their mouth and drops their lower jaw.

The search for ways to capture and analyze consumer emotions has been a research priority for years. Ventures into neuro-marketing have been difficult to integrate into existing research frameworks for broader use. Up until today, it has been difficult to link the measurement of emotions with analytics in a scalable way that can be put into a daily business practice.

Listen to the full interview. Get beyond the lies, ignore the pressure and what the investigator are saying (beyond the main assertion(s)), and and listen closely to her statements and it is clear to me:

She did not dispose of the body, she is very clear about last seeing her across the street from her boyfriends residence.
She is clear she doesn't know where her daughter is currently located (at the time of the interview).
Whenever she is asked what happened, she avoids the questions by saying that she doesn't know where she is- where they are really asking how did she die.
She let's it slip that she is scared of who disposed of the body (if you believe the first bullet).
It is clear when she is reaching for a plausible explanation like, why she wanted to come to Universal (distribute pictures) and getting a call from her daughter yesterday.
Ignore any statements Casey makes where she goes on and feels comfortable enough to speak at length about any subject; when she is under stress she gets frustrated and responds in one sentence- simple responses- while under pressure she is unlike some liars where they feel they need to explain the lies further- this is a big sign to her personality and her belief she can manipulate others. Towards the end of the interview, she lies freely and speaks at length when asked a question, this is opposite of how she reacts when she is not under pressure.
"I'm never going to be able to forgive myself" is the truth

Hindsight is twenty-twenty... but the investigator makes the mistake of saying, "everything you tell us is a lie" which is NEVER the case, people tell half truths, people when deceitful will attempt to make up a lie that is as close as possible to the truth.

You can also tell a great deal about a defendant by the way the attorneys interact with them (including guilt and innocence), I would suggest checking in at 8:50 in the morning when she is brought into the courtroom.

This research examined the relative sexual attractiveness of individuals showing emotion expressions of happiness, pride, and shame compared with a neutral control. Across two studies using different images and samples ranging broadly in age (total N = 1041), a large gender difference emerged in the sexual attractiveness of happy displays: happiness was the most attractive female emotion expression, and one of the least attractive in males. In contrast, pride showed the reverse pattern; it was the most attractive male expression, and one of the least attractive in women. Missing Woman, Janet Walters' Body Found

There are certain times when I know certain things about an incident but cannot release information via the website. I'm occasionally emailed by someone from a news organization, a police department, or an attorney and asked to give a quick look and give them my impressions. Most often the information I provide is used to formulate next steps and tactics. Living in the Indianapolis area I was very familiar with this case and would not release my comments about this case until her body was found.

Janet L. Walters, 44, was found about 4 p.m. Saturday in the back of her minivan in the employee portion of the Meijer parking lot at Heartland Crossing near Mooresville, Indiana. Walters had been missing since April 14.

Her husband, Gary Walters, was interviewed by several people including the local media outlets. He made a public plea to help find his wife. I first examined the footage of the husband on the Saturday before Easter Sunday, some nine days after she was missing. There is not a great deal of footage available of the husband's plea online, but you can see part of it by clicking here.

He does not feel the need to add to his plea for the public's help and his emotion is very real.

He was not hiding anything and had nothing to do with her disappearance, or her death.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Janet, and Gary and her entire family.

Loose Lips Sink Ships, Bin Laden's Death and Mistakes Currently Being Made By Well Intentioned Americans

[Insert News Organization] has been able to get our hands on an email sent out by [Insert High Ranking Government Official's name] from the [Insert Government Agency] where it says [Insert congrats and then inadvertently reveals a small amount of sensitive information (usually towards the end of the email)].

Living in middle America I SHOULD NOT KNOW the following:

The critical piece of intelligence was developed out of the Asia (not the middle east) region.
Intelligence was largely based on one of Bin Laden's couriers, the intelligence was based on a telephone conversation. (Bin Laden used couriers because Time Magazine released (before 9/11) that US intelligence agencies were able to intercept his satellite phone conversations.) Like a movie film, on the ground agents, satellites, and drones physically watched and tracked the courier. This was not the only courier or individual associated with this terrorist organization under extremely close watch by the intelligence organizations. There were many people tracked and monitored VERY closely for extended periods of time.
The raid was a largely conducted by a group within the Navy Seals known as U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six, an elite team of military personnel trained to conduct the most top secret operations involving combat, anti-terrorism and dangerous rescues. This group is part of another group called the Naval Special Warfare Development Group or DevGru for short. The DevGru unit is part of the Joint Special Operations Command. They train year round and are never technically deployed to specific regions, they are mission centric. The budget for this group is worth every penny and you'd need one hundred billion plus pennies.
The compound where the raid occurred was replicated and the Seal Team trained the raid extensively. This was one of many compounds intelligence divisions had identified as a hot targets, and these other compounds also were replicated and used for training. These were not Hollywood like replicas.
We confirmed a higher level of activity within this compound with the use of drones, this led credibility to what was developed out of intelligence divisions.
Intelligence divisions have a complete mappings of the middle eastern region from satellites and a large group of analysts who track changes (construction and activity (even counting vehicles on sites)). When items become flagged drones are used to get a fuller picture (because satellites only do fly overs of the region at certain times (several times during the day) during the day).

These things are all things that came to light through rudimentary statement analysis of these emails written and sent the morning after the mission. The government employees that provided the emails to news agencies did not release them with malicious intent, and in fact, I believe they did it to showcase the kudos their division is receiving from their own leadership- it was a way to celebrate the victory. The individuals did not realize or understand how the release of some of this information actually helps our enemies.

More of my thoughts:

This was not the first raid where we hoped to confront Bin Laden. You only have to look at past raids where top Al Qaeda leadership were killed or captured.
Bin Laden would not have been taken alive, and in fact instructed his bodyguards to not allow him to be taken alive. It would not further his cause. This was a mandate of all top leaders in the Al Qaeda organization.
Military and intelligence knew the above, and had planned for his burial at sea.
Al Qaeda has also planned for the day he would die. Timing plays a big part of their retaliation. We must remember Al Qaeda, is and will continue to be patient, the time between attacks are measured in years, not months. Their terrorist attacks are long term missions that last years between the final planning stage and the actual attack. With the date of his death, it has set in motion at least one mission.
We have more to be worried about the lone terrorist in the short term.
There will be a video or audio released from Bin Laden that was made in the event of his death. I would not expect this to occur in the near future. The timing will be critical to future intelligence gathering.
Lastly, a Navy Seal can hold their breath and swim under water 300 yards- That is three football fields, minus the end zones. They are always training and always on the go, they have a saying that goes something like this, "The more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed in war." They are the best of the best, and stronger and more dedicated then our worst enemies.

Rubbing the forehead is a sign of stress, but it also conveniently is a way to eye block. Emotion is present in the beginning of the statement, but he recovers. I would like to see a baseline of the boyfriend; it appears he talks out of the side of his mouth. I would like to make sure this is always the case. He is reading the statement, but never once looks at the cameras or press, even after the statement is read. Most people would want some ‘feedback’ to their message; this is his opportunity to plea for information and/or her return. I have watched his final words, and the micro expression, and how his hand touches his face some 10+ times when he finishes the statement and find it interesting, but cannot draw conclusions, but there is something there...

“We’d really like to be left alone” is not what you’d expect from someone asking for help from the public in finding the missing woman. This is a huge hotspot. Most people in similar situations would stay up for days and would repeatedly talk to whoever would listen if it meant there was a glimmer of hope that it would bring her back.

When you compare the boyfriend statement to her brother’s statement (which is natural and just as heart felt) it highlights the ‘unnatural’ statement by the boyfriend.

I am unsure if this is simply a huge case of nervousness and shyness, but should be examined if this does not fit with the normal behavior of the boyfriend.

Unfortunately her body was found 5 days later.

There are people who for a variety of reasons are always moving their legs or feet.

I even have seen a commercial for a pill to reduce this effect, which is a little crazy, unless it is for strictly neurological reasons that the shaking occurs, if not the drug companies are once again treating the symptom instead of the root cause.

Most often this movement is a result of excess adrenaline in the system, and the person is subconsciously burning off the adrenaline.

I have seen this occur because there was excessive internal struggles in a male individual who was going through the gender reassignment process. When he was dressed as a male would constantly be moving his legs and when dressed as a woman her legs would be perfectly calm- the individual never knew this, but it was clear to me he/she was making a decision that he/she felt most comfortable with.

I have also seen this with a person playing poker when they just had been dealt a big hand.

It is likely the judge in this high profile case knows that his every move and word will be documented, and recorded, and analyzed, and his system is either creating nervous energy or he is experiencing general excitement that shows in his body language in the form of lower body movements.
